Colonic Irrigation
The Treatment
The Consultation
Your initial consultation will take about 15-20 minutes and can be done of the day of your first treatment. Your therapist will go through your medical history and discuss your individual case to determine the best possible course of treatment for you. The procedure will then be explained to you, and any worries that you have can be voiced.
Preparation
Before your first treatment there is no need for any special dietary preparation, your normal diet should be maintained. For subsequent treatments, you may be advised on changes in diet that will enhance the effects of the treatment. You should, however, a week before any treatment make sure that you increase your water consumption to 1.5-2 litres of water per day and reduce intake of tea, coffee and alcohol.
If you are constipated we advise one teaspoon of linseeds soaked in water every day. Two days before the treatment, avoid eating processed foods and have plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.
The Procedure
During the procedure itself water is gently introduced into your colon and expelled once the colon is filled. Massage techniques are used to encourage the release of lodged matter and the expulsion of the waste water.
Your privacy and modesty are of upmost importance to us, and if you do not feel comfortable at any time, then please discuss this with your therapist. After the procedure, your individual requirements will be discussed and you may be advised on changes in diet or routine that will enhance the effects of the treatment.
After the Treatment
Straight after your treatment, it is important to rest well and keep you body warm. If you start to feel cold, you can drink herbal tea or diluted soups. It is also possible that you may feel light headed, tired and lacking energy. It is more common that you will feel refreshed and energised.
Avoid drinking alcohol and eating meat, dairy, bread and excessive amounts of raw vegetables for 24 hours after the treatment. You should have a bowel movement after 36-48 hours, you should eat lightly until then, drinking plenty of water and taking linseeds soaked in water if you are constipated.
Digestive Health
During the treatment, bacteria are removed from the colon which will allow the long term re-colonisation of 'good' bacteria in the bowel. To encourage this, and after your treatment, it is recommended that you take a pro-biotic culture and adopt a diet which encourages the multipication of the 'good' bacteria (Acidophilus). The removal of waste matter will also increase the transport of essential vitamins and minerals through the colon wall. It is recommended however during the treatment course to use a vitamin and mineral supplement.
Enemas
An emema is a treatment that can be used in conjunction with Colonic Hydrotherapy. Water is retained in the bowel and is usually treated with herbs or other substances that can be beneficial. Anenema does not usually travel all the way up the colon and does not have the same effects as aColonic but is a good treatment to have in addition to your Colonic Therapy.
